You have to voluntarily examine your life, not condemn it, not say this is right or this is wrong but look. When you do look in that way, you will find that you look with eyes that are full of affection—not with condemnation, not with judgement, but with care. You look at yourself with care and therefore with immense affection—and it is only when there is great affection and love that you see the total existence of life.
You are not an isolated entity. You are a unique, irreplaceable part of the cosmos. Don’t forget this. You are an essential piece of the puzzle of humanity.
Be free, live happily, joyously, without any antagonism, without any hate. Then life becomes something quite different. Then life has a meaning, is full of joy and clarity.
Living our life fully and deeply requires courage. If we cannot be happy right now, we need to ask ourselves why. We need to find out what it is. What’s weighing us down or pulling us away from the present moment?
Thich Nhat Hanh
If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path.
You cannot think clearly if you are prejudiced, if you have opinions. You cannot think clearly if you are not sensitive: sensitive to nature, sensitive to all the things that are happening around you, sensitive not only to what is happening outside you but also inside you. If you are not sensitive, if you are not aware, you cannot think clearly.
There is only one poverty and that poverty is a heart that cannot love.
Once you accept yourself as you are, you allow yourself to be happy. You don’t need to become anything or anyone else, just as a rose doesn’t need to become a lotus in order to be happy. A rose is already beautiful. You are wonderful just as you are.
Thich Nhat Hanh
Love is not a relationship. Love is a state of being; it has nothing to do with anybody else. One is not in love, one is love. And of course when one is love, one is in love—but that is an outcome, a by-product, that is not the source. The source is that one is love.
If you really want peace of mind and success in your endeavours, discard self-importance and your ego.
